In the 13 years since its incepetion the Edmund C. Arnold SND affiliate at Michigan State University has exapnded the knowledge of student visual journalists through meetings with professionals and design projects. Trips to news outlets like The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Chicago Tribune and National Post (Toronto), to judge the affilates' annual design contest, have put members in contact with working journalists. Alumni of the group have gone on to work for The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, The Virginian-Pilot, New Orleans Times-Picayune, Arizona Republic and The Oregonian, among others.
